Investment casting rapid prototypes consist of a lost form Wax Steriolithography "positive", dipped in a liquid ceramic coating, which is baked causing the wax to run out, leaving a "negative" of the part behind. This is then filled with molten metal to produce the desired components.

Benefits
Very complex parts can easily be cast in metal, such as turbine blades. It is ideally suited to parts that are not designed to be hollow and with fairly uniform wall thickness. Some minor distortion is normal, and components normally require post finishing, such as machining and polishing.
